Supporting recovery for family friends, partners and loved ones is a short video for all those who are personally supporting an adult survivor of childhood trauma and abuse.
This video, while acknowledging the stresses and challenges of ‘being there’ for the survivor you care about, provides information and insight into the way trauma can affect people. This includes a basic understanding of the brain, biological responses and coping strategy. Hearing from survivors and those who support them provides understanding into not only survivors’ needs but also those of their loved ones. Based on research evidence as well as personal experience the video introduced the principles of being trauma informed: safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, empowerment and how these principles can support healthy healing relationships for all.
