National Apology and the ballot process

 

 

The Prime Minister will deliver the National Apology to Victims and Survivors of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse at Parliament House in Canberra on Monday, 22 October 2018. 

To enter the ballot to attend the apology , please complete and submit the following form by midnight on Tuesday, 25 September 2018:  https://www.nationalapologyconsultation.gov.au/Pages/ballot.aspx

The Royal Commission published its final recommendations on Criminal Justice
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has released 85 recommendations to reform the Australian criminal justice system to provide a fairer response to victims of institutional child sexual abuse. It has published four fact sheets in relation to the report.

Child abuse royal commission: Justice McClellan warns churches to change or risk illegitimacy

Every major Australian church has been cautioned to better protect children or risk illegitimacy. In a speech to the National Council of Churches, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse chairman Justice Peter McClellan urged religious leaders to act on his recommendations.

National child sex abuse redress scheme gets Budget allocation
The Federal Budget has allocated $33.4 million to the setting up of the national redress scheme for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse. Supporters of the scheme have welcomed the funding and are urging the states, churches and charities to opt-in to the scheme.

Parents urged to hold children close as figures show childhood trauma leads to adult mental health issues
A leading mental health advocate has urged parents to provide a safe environment for their children, from birth, to prevent later life impacts, after new figures were released showing up to 88 per cent of adult survivors of childhood trauma develop mental health problems.
