Resources for supporters

1 in 4 Australian adults have experienced childhood trauma.  Many have not received the support they need to heal. This leaves many survivors living with often serious impacts on their mental and physical health (Banyard et al, 2009), wellbeing, self-esteem and relationships, and educational and work opportunities.

Because childhood trauma happened within relationships, healing also happens within relationships. Your role in providing a safe relationship of trust is critical for their healing.  Applying the `trauma-informed’ principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment can help you support the survivor in your life.

If you are supporting a survivor of child abuse and trauma we hope that you find the following resources helpful.
